September…bridging the seasons

September is a betwixt-and-between month. Autumn’s vibrant promise glows later in the month as we–I, anyway!–gladly bid farewell to our hot and steamy, muggy, buggy Summer. It has inspired me to write a free verse poem. Thank you for indulging me as I wax poetic!

September Gold

— Kathryn Louise Wood

September—bridging Summer’s heat to Autumn’s frost,

affords a light unique unto itself, bathing the world in gold.

The crispness of the morning air sharpens our senses,

adding bright clarity to all within its realm.

Even as the gilded dust of drying grass and dusky flowers

softens our footsteps through quiet fields,

migrating birds are beckoned to linger,

taking their fill of September’s harvest

to sustain them on their journey south.

Thanks for stopping by.

Y’all come back now (when Autumn blazes forth in all its flaming beauty!)

Kathryn
